At Elite Smiles, P.A. we recommend dental crowns to our patients to strengthen their damaged tooth by fully covering it. Crowns also have the added benefit of improving the appearance and tooth’s alignment. We offer numerous types of crowns and will go over your options during your initial appointment. Please read below for a brief description of the crowns we offer.
- All-ceramic crowns are an ideal option for our patients’ front teeth because they are able be made to resemble your teeth’s natural color. We are also able to create these in-house, so our patients can enjoy getting a permanent crown in one appointment. To learn more please visit our service page dedicated to CEREC same-day crowns.
- Metal crowns use non-noble metals helping them to not corrode. While these crowns are less likely to break due to their strength, they are a metallic color and are mainly recommended for molars.
- Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns have a metal structure that are the covered in porcelain. These are an excellent choice for teeth that are visible when smiling because they are fabricated to match the color of the surrounding teeth. A downside is that the metal may show through at the gum line, and the porcelain can chip or break over time.
A dental crown is permanently attached to the effected tooth using a dental cement and can only be removed by a dentist. Most patients will need to have a temporary crown placed at their initial appointment and then need to return to the office when their permanent crown is delivered from the lab. Temporary crowns are made from an acrylic material and are placed until your permanent crown can be installed.
